PLandscapes and Middle Ages of “Salto di Quirra”

This is a tour which lets you discover the medieval and panoramic treasures of the historical area of Quirra (Villaputzu). The tour includes the visit to the church of San Nicola and to the ruins of the Castle of Quirra. The first one is built on the Quirra plain. Its main feature is that it’s been built entirely with bricks which give the red-orange colour to the building. This is one of the rarest Romanesque examples built with this material. The Castle of Quirra was built by the Giudici of Cagliari on the Cudias Hill to supervise the boundaries with the Giudicato of Gallura. Suggestive legends and tales are tied to this Castle, primarily the ones about Violante Carroz, known as “The Bloody”. From the top of the hill we can enjoy a wonderful view on the eastern coast and the hinterland which completely rewards for the climb effort.
